Always a fan of military history and tactics, Mark Jamieson volunteered for the Enhanced Man Project (EMP), he had dreams of being among the first in an ultimate super soldier army, carrying on his family's history of serving this country no matter the cost. For Mark, the cost was his humanity. The EMP was some of the military's first gene-splicing experiments, intended to imbue soldiers with enhanced senses. The experiments proved successful and paved the way for many advances in genetic manipulation; however, many subjects experienced side effects over time. Although dominant side effects included short periods of heightened senses followed by blindness and the inability to smell or taste, the unrefined nature of the techniques created some startling and unpredicted results. In Mark, the side effects were a manifestation of canine DNA making him physically more wolf than man. Unable to return to the ranks of humans, he asked his family be told he was dead, the victim of a rare blood disorder. He has shunned his human past to the point of growing angry when he is called by his human name. This imperfect fusion is not without disadvantages; although Blackwulf is very loyal and always follows orders, the fear among his superiors is that he may challenge the current administration if he perceives them as weak, as a wolf would. Morphius suspects that Blackwulf undergoes regular mental and emotional conditioning to keep him tamed. The rigidness of his command style has also caused rifts in the Obsidian Enforcers, many of whom aren't accustomed to that style of leadership. On rare occasions his human side seems to disappeared entirey. Given to base animal instincts, a primal fury causes him to grow in size and strength. During these times, he purely savage, blindly attacking anything in his way. It is not known if this is a continuation of the original side effects. Blackwulf still studies military history, and can be found reading and learning more to help him in the field. The special nature of the group demands unconventional tactics, which Blackwulf continues to hone. |
